FAQ

Quick answers to the problems admins, staff and members run into most. Each answer says what to check first.

Why don't the bot's commands show up?

Ninth Bot's commands only appear in servers that zVapor has set up for the bot. If the bot is in your server but no commands show, contact contact@ninthbot.site.

If only some commands are missing, check Server Settings, Integrations, Ninth Bot. Admins can hide commands from roles there. Commands also stay hidden from members without the permission they need, such as Manage Server for /setup.

Why can't the bot create ticket channels?

The member who opened the panel gets a message such as "I'm missing Manage Channels in #Tickets to create ticket channels." On the Discord category the ticket category uses, the bot needs View Channel, Manage Channels, Send Messages, Read Message History, Attach Files and Embed Links. Add user and Remove user in a ticket also need Manage Roles. A category permission override can take one away even when the bot's role has it.

Also check that the Discord category still exists. If it was deleted, /setup shows "points at a Discord category that no longer exists" under Needs attention. Edit the ticket category and pick a new one.

Why can't I open another ticket?

Each ticket category limits how many tickets you can have open at once, and can have a cooldown after a ticket closes. The message tells you which: "You already have 1 open ticket(s)…" or "Please wait before opening another…" with the time you can try again. If you see "A ticket is already being created", check your channel list: your ticket is probably already there.

Why doesn't the message log show who deleted a message?

The Deleted by field needs the View Audit Log permission on the bot's role. The bot's invite doesn't include it, so add it under Server Settings, Roles. Without it, delete entries leave the field out.

When the field says "The author (no audit log entry)", the author deleted the message themselves. Entries marked not cached are for messages sent before the bot last restarted: they are still logged, but without the text.

Why was my stream alert refused?

The bot looks up the creator before saving and refuses handles it can't find or verify:

  • "No Twitch user found" or "No YouTube channel found": check the spelling. For Twitch, use the username from the channel link.
  • For YouTube, if the handle can't be looked up, paste the channel ID instead. It starts with UC.
  • "Twitch alerts are not configured": the operator hasn't connected the bot to Twitch. Contact contact@ninthbot.site.
  • "Could not verify": Twitch or YouTube didn't answer. Try again in a few minutes.

Why isn't my stream alert posting?

Check that the alert has a channel. An alert without its own channel uses the default channel from the dashboard's Stream alerts settings page, and posts nowhere if that isn't set either. The bot also needs View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links there. Paused alerts don't post. New YouTube alerts start with the creator's next upload, not their existing videos.

Why can't I edit a case reason?

Only the moderator who made the case, or someone with Manage Server, can edit its reason. Everyone else sees "Only the case's moderator or someone with Manage Server can edit its reason." The same rule applies to evidence on the dashboard. You also need Moderate Members to use /reason in Discord.

Why can't I warn, time out, kick or ban someone?

The bot checks the role hierarchy. The member's highest role must be below yours and below the bot's. You can't target yourself, the bot or the server owner, and members with Administrator can't be timed out. If the bot says "That member has an equal or higher role than me.", move the bot's role higher under Server Settings, Roles. See Roles and permissions.

Why does /setup say only server admins can use it?

"Only server admins (Manage Server) can use /setup." means your account has neither Manage Server nor Administrator in this server. The same goes for /status. Showing the command to more roles under Server Settings, Integrations doesn't change this, because the bot checks the permission itself every time.

Why does the setup panel say it was opened by someone else, or has expired?

Only the admin who ran /setup can use that panel. Anyone else who clicks it sees "This panel belongs to" the admin who opened it. A panel also expires after 15 minutes without use. Run /setup again to get your own panel.

Why can't I delete a ticket category?

A ticket category that has ever had a ticket can't be deleted, because its tickets and transcripts still point at it. In /setup the panel says "Something went wrong" and nothing changes. To stop offering the category, send a new panel without it and delete the old panel message.

Why does sending a panel say "Pick at least one category."?

The category names you typed didn't match any ticket category. Names must match exactly, including capitals, separated by commas. The Overview in /setup lists your category names.

Why didn't the member get a transcript or rating DM?

The close DM is skipped when the member has DMs from server members turned off, or has left every server they share with the bot. Nothing else is affected. If the transcript is also missing from your transcript channel, check that a transcript channel is set and that the bot can view it, send messages and attach files there.

What does "needs attention" in /status mean?

/status says "Bot status: healthy" when the database answers and no background job failed its last run. It says "Bot status: needs attention" when:

  • Database latency shows "unreachable". The bot waits 2 seconds for its database before giving up.
  • A job is marked 🔴 with its last error. Its last run failed.

A job marked 🟠 overdue missed two runs in a row. That doesn't change the status line on its own, but it usually means the job is stuck. Job history starts fresh whenever the bot restarts.

The bot's hosting is handled by zVapor, so if the status stays like this for more than a few minutes, contact contact@ninthbot.site.

Why didn't a new member get their auto-roles?

  • If your server uses membership screening, roles are given only after the member accepts the rules.
  • The bot needs Manage Roles, and each auto-role must sit below the bot's highest role.
  • Roles with moderation or admin permissions are refused. Check the mod log for an Auto-role skipped note with the reason.
